Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing closed their doors after failing to pay their rents and debtors for better part of the year. This was directly caused by the Chinese owner getting incarcerated: https://www.flyingmag.com/canadian-kitbuilder-murphy-aircraft-shuts-down/. Contributing factors were slow reaction of MAM to increase of costs during COVID and subsequent supply chain disruptions. Kits sold until this closure and forced sale were 30-50% below manufacturing costs.
“Our goal is to help preserve access to parts, retain valuable technical knowledge and support future development. We could not just sit idle seeing iconic Murphy aircraft close due to extremely poor mismanagement!” said Zrinko Amerl, CEO of BRC Aircraft. “We want owners and builders to know that BRC is the source for original parts and potential new production. We will provide further information on available stock and our distribution plans over the coming months. Please visit www.murphyair.ca for more information! Separately, BRC Aircraft plans to develop new BRC aircraft inspired by the utility and bush-flying heritage from these designs and in line with Alaskan development we started few years ago. Further announcements will describe the development program, configurations, and intended production schedule.
The acquisition covers parts inventory and selected tooling and equipment. It does not include Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing’s aircraft drawings or plans to manufacture its complete aircraft designs. BRC Aircraft will supply the acquired inventory independently.
BRC Aircraft’s activities include the Saberwing and Volato composite aircraft , Texas Bullet, the Alaskan and Frontier Floats, with operations in Canada and the United States and build-center franchises in North America and Europe.
